I see you're a Newton fan too... I used to have a couple of MessagePads back in the day, carrying it around to take notes when carrying a PDA was a sure sign of geekdom.

You might want to check out my iPhone app Instaviz:

http://instaviz.com

... which has Newton-inspired shape recognition and automated graph layout. Note taking via mind maps / concept maps and the like.

Ah yes, that is an elegant (but slower I would think) solution. I was lucky- I had an external drive I use for TimeMachine. I bit the bullet and partitioned it out and shaved off 30G for my new case-sensitive partition.

sorry! I forget make it executable :)
But it's did'n work :(

I unpack files in /home/user/MyDocs/.document/newton

after make execute and run "./einstein" platform loads and type:
========
Welcome to Einstein console.
This is Einstei Platform 2007.7
./einstein -- syntax error
syntax is ./einstein [option] path_to_data
========

Ok. ROM file copied in same dir and named 717006. I type "./einstein 717006"

sysyem type:
=====
Welcome to Einstein console.
This is Einstei Platform 2007.7
Can't start ROM file '717006/717006'
=====

ok. I rename "717006" to "rom-image"

sysyem type:
...
Can't start ROM file 'rom-image/717006'
...

???
And if I creat subfolder "rom-image" and move 717006 into, after run "./einstein rom-image" system type:
...
ROM file should be 8MB long
...

But file "717006" - 8.9MB!!! And, of course, this ROM full works on Einstei Platform 2007.7 for Windows!!!

:( WTF?

Small stupid question: how run it on 770?

I unpack and copied three files (*.rex, ROM and 16 megs of binary OpenEinstein) to internal memory (into created dir "Newton"). Binary was renamed to "einstein" :)
Then I type in x-term "./einstein" and...

"./einstein: permission denided" :(((

Ugh. I agree. I got hopelessly addicted to this game but then I stopped playing video games years ago--after I developed an unhealthy compulsion for Civ and C&C. I just downloaded Mote-M for my iPhone, not as cool but I it may be the first paid App I delete in an last ditch effort to regain my productivity.

Imagewell looks great. Another alternative you might consider is Pixelmator. Small, efficient, accomplishes the tasks you listed.

I am neither a mobile application programmer nor a middlware expert. I still cannot understand why cant we make a mobile device which is fully customizable? why can't they make a Mobile processor (like intel or AMD just like PCs) and use peripherals with drivers work for all availabe mobile OSs. If thats possible, why do we worry about specific OSs. Mobile hardware manufacturer makes cell phones and OS vendors like MS, Google or Apple create Mobile OSs which is compatible for those cellphones and end user can decide what mobile, carrier and OS they need.

Please somebody explain why this is not possible..? Or Is this a monopoly of vendors, hardware manufacturers and carriers..?

Thanks,
DG

Well, the primary selling points of the iPhone are it's unique (read: multi touch) hardware, and a polished interface.

Android cannot compete with the hardware, since it's purely a software mechanism, and while Android is super-customizable, your average layman is not going to be able to get anything as slick as the iPhone interface running without a lot of difficulty.

Also, they aren't mutually exclusive; android software, if it was better than iPhone, could run on an iPhone, thus removing any competition whatever.

In short, I don't think the iPhone has anything to worry about just yet.

Best,
Ati

Well, thanks for providing the compiled binaries; I was about halfway through the process and Leopard was giving up on me. I managed to get everything installed but when I try to run I get:

$./einstein .
This is Einstein Platform 2007.7
Creating image...
Killed.

-The ROM came from my (2000->)2100, "Senior CirrusNoDebug image", named 717006
-I copied from the card to the internal store.
-The three files are there.
-They're all chmod 777

I'm not sure how to exit the maemo_af_desktop

Anyhow, thanks for any help you can offer; I'd love to see this thing run (so I can rationalize an N810!)
