{"id":119,"date":"2006-05-11T21:49:20","date_gmt":"2006-05-12T02:49:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dillernet.com\/apple\/?p=119"},"modified":"2006-05-11T21:49:20","modified_gmt":"2006-05-12T02:49:20","slug":"700-ebooks-and-fbreader-missing-the-point","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dillernet.com\/apple\/2006\/05\/11\/700-ebooks-and-fbreader-missing-the-point\/","title":{"rendered":"700 Ebooks and FBreader &#8211; Missing the Point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dillernet.com\/apple\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/images\/fast_volkswagen_avatar.gif?resize=70%2C40&#038;ssl=1\" border=\"0\" height=\"40\" width=\"70\" alt=\"fast_volkswagen_avatar.gif\" align=\"left\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So I was fighting with FBreader for a long time, and not understanding why it was so great- until I realized a few basic things, which I&#8217;ll pass along&#8211; in case you haven&#8217;t been using it for all your reading lately.\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rotate the screen 90 deg\n<\/li>\n<li>Go full-screen\n<\/li>\n<li>Use the rocker button, which is now on the right-hand side to move a page at a time\n<\/li>\n<li>The Library and place keeper (remembers where you were between sessions) only seem to work with FBreader files\n<\/li>\n<li>Get the <a href=\"http:\/\/only.mawhrin.net\/fbreader\/\">latest version<\/a>, it fixes some bugs.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once I had these things going, I&#8217;ve been reading almost non-stop on this thing. I had a week vacation and had all my reading on it- and the screen is so sharp you can read on it all day and not strain your eyes. I did bump up the font size one pixel.\n<\/p>\n<p>And I&#8217;m not reading just the classics, i.e. Gutenberg. How can you read the good stuff? I&#8217;ll talk about that in my next entry, which I&#8217;m working on: <i>The Dark Underbelly of IRC and eBooks<\/i>.
