Lots of talk on the net about this- and they are all correct- this beta is amazing. It’s very fast and the the UI enhancements are nice. I’ve taken some screen shots (12) the old fashion way, and I’ll let them do the talking.
First, the flasher on OSX worked like a charm:
blinky:~ dillera$ sudo ./flasher.macosx -F BETA.SU-18_2006SE_0.2006.22-21_PR_F5_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

When it was done, I had my 2006 770 ready to go!
Here is the new Desktop. That Google bar is a search bar- type something in and it will pop open the browser with the search results.
Continue reading on for my 12 other screen shots……
Here are the rest of the screenshots. Click on each one for a bigger version.
Message detail. Mail seems faster, though I never used the 2005 version.
Presence menu is the little ball on the top menu bar.
Chat – looking at contacts- it pulled in all my Gmail contacts automatically.
Gmail works very nicely in this version of Opera.
Gmail message detail in Opera.
And no Spreadsheet? What about this Nokia Love?
Talk – but he wouldn’t pick up.
Messaging Menu – clicking on the People Icon gives you a nice overview of all your communication and messaging.
The beta is nice- install it now!
Andy,
I got it to work with my macbook. I reread the flashing instructions on maemo.org and followed your instructions. Thank you for your help.
John
Also let me say one other thing- I noticed that if I plug my 770 into my Macbook it Won’t recognize the USB drive built into it. However, if I plug it into my older G5, it works as it always had. This is with 2006 OS.
I wonder if the new Macbook/Pro have some sort of different USB? I have no idea, but do you have an older mac?
Also, I flashed this with my G5 of course. Perhaps the flasher itself is not compatible with the Intel Macs?
Again, the command in the terminal is:
sudo ./flasher.macosx -F BETA.SU-18_2006SE_0.2006.22-21_PR_F5_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R
(all on one line)
Sure- just put both the flasher app and the image in your home directory, ie. the one with your login name.
Then run the Terminal app- it will start a shell in your home. Do a ‘ls’ you should see both those programs there. Then copy and paste that first line I have on this post. Run that. Type in your password. The program will wait.
Turn off the 770 (hold power down for ~ 5 seconds). Then plug in the USB cable (with the 770 at the other end) into THE COMPUTER itself- you can’t use a HUB.Then turn it on, but HOLD DOWN the HOME button (the one on the front with a house). the 770 will start and stay on the white screen, you should see the mac start to download stuff to it.
Would it be possible to give detailed instructions on flashing beta 2.0 to the 770. I’ve got a macbook and downloaded the beta and flasher.macosx but I’m not having any luck. Where should I put the downloaded files? Do I connect the 770 first?
Thanks,
John
One other thing- when you have your presense set on, and you are pinged for a chat, the 770 make a nice pleasnt ding-dong and the People Icon alternates from B&W to Color. If you click on it, you’ll see who has requested a chat at the bottom of that menu.
